As a parent, making informed health decisions for your child is essential. These five key questions can help foster a fact-based discussion with your pediatrician. If vaccines are truly safe and effective, concerns should be easy to address with clear evidence. Parents deserve transparency and informed consent.

1. How do we know vaccines are safe, and how rigorous is their testing?

  •  Are vaccines tested in long-term placebo-controlled trials before approval? 
  • Why do most vaccine trials use other vaccines or adjuvants as controls instead of a true saline placebo?
  • When vaccines are not tested against true saline placebos, how can we know which adverse events are due to the vaccine and which are not? The safety monitoring period for some vaccines, such as Recombivax HB (an infant vaccine for Hepatitis B), was only five days—is that enough time to detect neurodevelopmental or autoimmune effects? 
  • Have studies examined the safety of giving multiple vaccines at once, as recommended by the CDC schedule?
  • VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) exists to track vaccine injuries, yet studies suggest only 1-10% of adverse events are ever reported. How does the CDC address underreporting? 

2. What do we know about vaccine ingredients and their long-term effects?

Aluminum is a known neurotoxin yet is included in vaccines for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, DTaP, Hib, pneumococcal, HPV, and meningococcal diseases. 

  • Has aluminum in vaccines been tested for long-term safety in infants? 
  • A 2022 JAMA Pediatrics study found a link between aluminum-containing vaccines and increased risk of persistent asthma. What does the research say about cumulative aluminum exposure?
  • Could repeated immune activation from vaccine adjuvants play a role in neurodevelopmental disorders? 

3. Have vaccines other than MMR and thimerosal been studied for a link to neurological disorders?

  • Autism rates have risen from 1 in 1,000 in 1995 to 1 in 36 today. Why have studies focused almost exclusively on MMR and thimerosal rather than the full vaccine schedule? 
  • Some parents report that their child developed normally until a specific vaccination, then experienced seizures, regression, or other neurological changes. What is your response to parents who have personally witnessed this? 
  • The U.S. government has compensated at least 83 cases of autism through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), including Hannah Poling’s case. How does this align with claims that vaccines do not cause autism? 
  • Are there biomarkers or genetic predispositions that could indicate whether a child is at higher risk for a vaccine-related neurological reaction? 

4. If my child is injured by a vaccine, who is responsible?

  • Due to the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, vaccine manufacturers cannot be sued for vaccine injuries. Why are vaccines the only pharmaceutical products exempt from liability? 
  • Over $5.3 billion has been paid out through the VICP since 1988. What is the process for filing a claim, and how many claims are denied? 
  • Since liability was removed in 1986, the CDC’s childhood vaccine schedule has expanded significantly. Is this increase driven by necessity or influenced by financial incentives? 
  • If vaccine manufacturers face no financial consequences for injuries, how do we ensure that safety remains a priority?

5. Do we know that vaccines alone are responsible for disease decline?

  • Historical data shows that infectious disease mortality was already declining before vaccines were introduced. For example, measles deaths dropped by over 90% before the vaccine was introduced in 1963. 
  • How do we separate the effects of vaccination from other public health improvements when evaluating disease reduction?
  • Have there been randomized controlled trials comparing long-term health outcomes of vaccinated vs. unvaccinated populations?
  • What are the real risks of each illness today? Have vaccine policies shifted based on current disease severity, or are they still based on historical fears?
  • Why does the CDC focus so much on acute infectious disease, when chronic conditions like allergies, autoimmune disease, and neurodevelopmental disorders are all rapidly increasing and represent 85% of all healthcare expenditure in the U.S.?
